I am good at being wildly creative and generative. I am not good at finding things. Organization is my evil nemesis. But, I do hate wasting time looking for my materials, so I keep trying...
One lesson I have reluctantly learned, is buy good quality binders. It hurts my thrifty soul, but replacing them can add up. I like to have a clear cover so I can list what is in it. By sticking with one color, my bookshelves look less chaotic:)
I tutor students, using Orton-Gillingham methodologies. We teach according to a sequence: we have 3 skill levels, with specific sounds we teach under each. I have 1 notebook per level.
I have invested in a lot of materials by Emily Gibbons: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Emily-Gibbons-The-Literacy-Nest. These materials are the backbone of my notebooks (word lists and stories for each phoneme). Then I include other resources I have for that phoneme. I also list any games or computer activities that target that goal. I update the topsheet to prod my memory. During the school year I add items in pencil, and then I update the sheet come spring. The top sheet looks something like this:
phoneme | games | computer | materials |
tion | Slides- Connect 4 | slides - tion/sion/cian | |
con. + le | Syllable type Uno | extra worksheet |
Here is the binder I have been using: https://www.staples.com/Staples-Better-2-Inch-D-3-Ring-View-Binder-Teal-13470-CC/product_651743?akamai-feo=off
